What’s a typical day like for you?
As a Multicultural Marketing Associate for Comcast Cable, I’m responsible for creating media experiences that resonate with viewers and their unique cultural backgrounds. A typical day includes reviewing scripts, TV commercials, and production budgets. I travel a lot for my role - one week I might be working with our creative agency in Chicago, another at a print shoot in L.A., and the next meeting in Miami.
What excites you most as you think about your future here?
Growing up, I remember seeing ads that were directed at me, but didn’t resonate because they had no relevance to my upbringing or background. I’m in a unique position to help create and advocate for culturally respectful and relevant messages. Whether it’s being behind the camera or editing a script, there’s tremendous value in working directly in the production process. When I think about where I’ll be five years from now, I know I want to continue growing in this direction.
What kinds of opportunities does Comcast NBCUniversal provide?
Comcast NBCUniversal is a media and technology company. During my first two internships, I worked as a marketing data analyst. When I started, I was managing a few summer projects, and that has evolved into managing international projects. I also have the opportunity to work in content development. One of my favorite projects has been producing two short TV series with our Hispanic television partner, Telemundo. In addition to that project, having access to Universal Studios has provided limitless opportunities to get involved in production, which helps to feed my passion for media and storytelling.
What advice would you give to recent grads?
I believe that every opportunity leads you to the next, and that there’s no such thing as a “bad” opportunity. Show up every day with a sense of purpose and enthusiasm. People often overlook the importance of a positive attitude, but I believe that much of my success has come from just that.
