Tell us about your career path at JBS.
I joined JBS as part of the Pilgrim’s sales team. At the time, I was responsible for growing one location’s sales program, but that quickly multiplied to five. After developing strong relationships with our operations team and our customer base, the executive team had the confidence in me to take on a newly created position, Head of Case Ready. JBS gave me the opportunity to lead 20% of our company and I took advantage of every minute of it. Today, I’m responsible for over seven thousand team members across eight locations.
Can you describe how JBS provides opportunities for development and leadership?
One of our seven core principles is “ownership,” and JBS provides the opportunity for everyone to take charge of their careers. For example, the year-long SUMMIT Program was influential in shaping the professional I am today. These opportunities exposed me to people within the company that were important to my growth, and helped fine tune my leadership skills so that I could take control of my career and make an impact in the organization.
What can people expect when they join JBS?
First, you can expect something new every day. Markets change, consumer preferences shift, and technology is more advanced than ever before. Second, know that JBS places a huge emphasis on making sure our employees and our community have a bright future. The entire company comes together for annual service events like Relay for Life or other projects, such as repainting community buildings, planting plants, or organizing local food banks, you name it.
What career advice would you offer students or young professionals entering the workplace?
Be a student of your profession. There’s always something new to learn or someone’s experience you can learn from. All you have to do is be curious and ask.
