As an Assistant Brand and Product Manager, Phillip is driven by the opportunity to work with a global team to market SCA’s diverse portfolio of products.

How did your background and interests lead you to SCA?

I was originally on a pre-med track in college. I loved science and theory, but realized that I didn’t have the same level of passion as some of my other peers for the medical field. I eventually switched into business with a focus on marketing, and was driven by the need to exercise both a creative and strategic mindset. I learned about SCA’s marketing program and saw an opportunity for international work exposure and development at one of the largest hygiene companies in the world. I jumped on the chance and haven’t looked back since.

What surprised you most when you first joined?

The international breadth of the company. Many people don’t realize that SCA is a global organization with more than 44,000 people – or that every day more than 500 million people use our products, like napkins and bathroom tissue. When I joined, I was impressed with the level of our team’s commitment to producing and marketing these products in a responsible and ethical way.

Can you tell me about a fun project you’ve worked on?

My favorite project has been working on SCA’s Tork Connect platform, a customized website designed to provide valuable information to our distributors. On the website you’ll find product info, brochures, and customized tools catered to customers needs. I had the opportunity to work on a team that built the website from the ground up. What I loved most was collaborating with peers from three different time zones and cultures. That presented its own set of challenges, but it was an incredible learning experience to work with peers from Sweden, India, and other corners of the globe.

What advice would you give recent graduates?

When you’re just starting out, it’s important to remember that patience and hard work will pay off. I have to remind myself that sometimes it’s the challenging, or uncomfortable, situations that bring the most growth. They are there to continually push you and provide an opportunity to learn.
